January 27, 2009, Tuesday
Good Afternoon,
Loren and I had a great time over the weekend, Saturday morning we were invited to a friend
that made kettle corn.... very good!!!! then on to Ft. Wayne for
the weekend with friends that we met when we were at a MDS project last July in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Had a great time with them and attended their church, North Leo
Mennonite Church. Tonight we are invited to Les and Gwen's for supper and Les' sister from
Oregon will be there, Rose. Looking forward to that! This morning a friend invited me to go with her from 5:30 - 7:00, to do water aerobics, what fun! I think i could get used to that!!!
(sorry, no photos of that)?????
The other photo is of Paul Payne's son, he attends the North Leo Church.
We ask for your continued prayers for dry roads in the next couple weeks! Looking forward
to being back home again with family and friends!
until next time....

reunion after 40 years!!!!
Loren and Keith meeting after 40 years! They had a great time reminising! I had the privilege of having lunch with Shirley Roth and then she and a friend came to see us at the canner site.
Also my cousin, Les, on the right photo, you can't see where his right hand is, but he came out and played us tunes and we sang along, made an instrument using one of the empty turkey cans. Also on the photo is Peter, and also Rudi from Akron, he is a former canner! Enjoyed visiting with him too. Until next time.....

Freeport, Illionis

As some of you may have known, Loren and I were very disappointed that we could not be a part of the Freeport Canning. With white outs and snow covered roads and seeing many accidents, and a few unbelievable experiences, we decided to head EAST!!!! God is so good, and we arrived safely here in Goshen. As for the canner, they made it to Freeport, not without some very tough driving thru the weather, but made it safely also. We were told that this was the coldest canning site... But like I have always said, these guys are fantastic. After some time in the morning, working to get things thawed out and to run on the canner they worked thru the night and finished the next day canning 18,000 lbs. of turkey. I was also told that they did enjoy their pizza!!!
Goshen, Indiana
Good Morning Friends! Another beautiful day! We are busy here with the canner in Goshen.
They have 80,000 lbs. of turkey to can. And they are well on their way.... so many great
volunteers. Which means we are making many, many more friends! We have a wonderful host family here, my cousin, Les and his family. And they also gave me a desk here in the office to use this week. On the photo Les and I wanted to share a piece of pie with all of you :) The other photo is of Menno Hof, where we visited on monday. Very interesting!
We are looking forward to meeting many more people here, we will be working here until
the 30th.
Thanks again to all of you for keeping in touch and especially for your prayers!

thanking everyone for their prayers
We have been hearing that our family and friends in PA have been having very cold weather and alot of bad road conditions. We too are experiencing alot of that here in the mid west. God has sure had his angels working overtime in protecting us as we travel and we are so very thankful.
We are here in Indiana now warm and safe! It was -4 here this morning and the wind is cold, but we are staying put for a couple days. Will start to can in Goshen on the 20th. After leaving southern Indiana wednesday morning and seeing so many accidents and visibility was not good, we decided to head East!!!! instead of going on to Freeport, Ill. We are so dissappointed to miss one of the canner sites, but are very happy to be warm and safe. We so much wanted to be a part of every canning site!
In Montgomery, IN, Loren was drying cans with a new friend and he offered to take us for a buggy ride..... i was in the back seat... was a bit crowded in the front..... :)
Again, thank you so much for your continued prayers!
Looking forward to telling you all in person in four weeks!!!!!

canner guys
The canner guys are still "the best".... Steven is visiting with the oldest man in Iowa who is still working as an electrician, he received an award in Washington, DC for still working in his profession. Josh is sealing cans,
and Viktor and Peter doing paper work.
They all got to go home over Christmas and we are back on the road again!
continued.....
The way the roads were covered on the one photo, Loren and I drove what should have taken
7 hours took us 11 hours.....but God is Good..... All the Time!!!!! All the Time...God is Good!!!!!
the one is the canner boys in their blazer, and then of course the other on of the trailer and blazer.
so thanks again for all your continued prayers we really do know and feel the prayers of all of you! Thank you again! Also, the other photo of the bird, we saw a field with about a dozen
bald eagles. While we were in Kalona we saw quite a few of them at different times.
(we just received a phone call from the sunny south.... Carl and Fern! Thanks! so good to hear
from home!

driving to Kalona
We are still so thankful for good roads. The drive to Kalona was O:K and had a wonderful
time there meeting many more new friends! and especially so many people that knew folks
in the Big Valley. Was working with the gentleman on the photo for a couple hours until
his wife came in, and she said she had a brother in Belleville..... Paul Bender! Also, Shana (Peachey) stopped in to see us (Elam Peachey's daughter), another lady knew Bertha Zook
that works at Peights..... and especially exciting for Loren was finding a few of his relatives from
the Simeon K. Yoder book.
Duchess, Alberta, Canada
The weekend of Jan. 3rd. we had the privilege of spending a few days with my sister and other friends in Duchess. What a wonderful time and again alot of good food. Linda made us
moose for sunday dinner... was delicious! It was quite cold there, and alot of snow, but the hospitality was great! Thank you for a wonderful time and looking forward to 2010 (that is when Linda and I will turn 60 and we will each be having our 40th anniversary.)
(the photo... we are on our way walking to church sunday morning)
